Community Mourns the Passing of Al Carbone at 92

Alfred V. “Al” Carbone, a respected community member and dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at the age of ninety-two. Originally from East Boston, he was a long-time resident of Woburn, Massachusetts, and later Salem, New Hampshire. His death marks the end of a life rich in service, creativity, and familial love.

Born to the late Vincent M. Carbone and Antonietta M. (Capone), Al grew up in Woburn, where he was an active participant in his community. A proud graduate of Woburn High School, he developed a deep passion for the outdoors from an early age, particularly enjoying hunting. His love for photography also flourished during his youth, eventually becoming a significant aspect of both his personal and professional life.

Military Service and Career in Public Service

Before embarking on a career in public service, Al honorably served in the United States Army and the Merchant Marines. This chapter of his life was one he cherished deeply, reflecting his commitment to serving his country. Following his military service, Al dedicated many years to the City of Woburn as a firefighter. His bravery, reliability, and quiet pride in his work made him a respected figure in the community.

In addition to his role as a firefighter, Al worked as a photographer for the Woburn Daily Times for several decades. His lens captured countless moments in the life of Woburn, preserving the stories of the city he loved. His work not only documented events but also reflected his deep connection to his community.

Al leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his cherished children: Alan Carbone and his wife Jeanne of Salem, Daniel Carbone and his wife Marianne of Danvers, and Brian Carbone of Salem. He was also the father of the late Lynne Carbone. Additionally, Al is remembered by his sister, Janet Carbone of Maine, and the late Peter Carbone and Vincent Carbone. His legacy continues through his eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.

Described as a man of quiet warmth, devotion, and steady integrity, Al Carbone will be remembered for his unwavering love of family and his creative spirit. His photographs have left an indelible mark on the community, highlighting his dedication to preserving its history.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Charles Church, located at 280 Main Street, Woburn. Following the Mass, burial will take place at Woodbrook Cemetery. Prior to the service, calling hours will be held from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, located at 263 Main Street, Woburn, MA 01801.

Al Carbone’s life was a testament to service and creativity, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him.
