Community Mourns the Loss of Rosalie Scorza Morell at 83

Rosalie Scorza Morell, a beloved member of the Palmyra community, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2024, at the age of 83. Her passing marks a significant loss for her family and friends, as she was known for her warmth and active participation in local organizations.

Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, Rosalie grew up in nearby Hyde Park before moving to Palmyra after marrying her husband, Gary Morell, with whom she shared 43 years of marriage. Gary predeceased her, leaving behind a legacy that Rosalie continued through her family and community involvement.

She is survived by her three children: Deanna Morell, John Morell (Michele), and Diane Kelly. Rosalie also leaves behind six grandchildren, including Collin and Alyssa Morell, Nicolette and Lillian Morell, and Hanna and Emma Kelly. In addition, her family includes her sister, Phyllis Plass (Robert) of Hyde Park, along with her nephew, Andrew Plass, niece, Christine Holder, and numerous cousins.

Legacy and Community Involvement

Rosalie was deeply engaged in her community, actively participating in various activities and clubs. She was a dedicated member of Zion Episcopal Church and contributed significantly to the mission of Grace House, organizations that reflect her commitment to serving others. Her involvement in these groups provided her with a platform to connect with others and make a meaningful impact.

Family and friends will have the opportunity to pay their respects during visitation on March 6, 2024, from 16:00 to 18:00 at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, located at 123 E. Jackson St., Palmyra, NY. Rosalie’s funeral service is scheduled for March 7, 2024, at 10:00 at Zion Episcopal Church, situated at 120 E. Main St., Palmyra, NY 14522. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Palmyra Village Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Rosalie’s memory to either Zion Episcopal Church or Grace House, located at 120 E. Main St., Palmyra, New York. These contributions will honor her legacy of kindness and community service.
