The CNY Diaper Bank is seeking community support this holiday season to assist local families facing economic hardships. The organization encourages individuals, local groups, and businesses to make monetary contributions, which will go towards providing essential diapers for infants and toddlers. To enhance the impact of donations, the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation has pledged to match contributions made until January 1, 2026, up to a total of $5,000. This initiative allows each dollar donated to provide a day’s worth of diapers for one local baby.
According to Michela Hugo, founder of the CNY Diaper Bank, nearly half of families with young children face diaper need. “When so many families are unable to afford their most basic needs, it is a glaring sign that our system must change,” she stated. Hugo emphasized that diaper need results from low wages and rising costs, forcing parents to make difficult choices between essential items.
Diapers are vital for infants, yet they are not included in the benefits provided by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or the Women, Infants, and Children program. The cost of maintaining an adequate supply of diapers for a single child can reach $100 per month, making it an expense that many families struggle to manage.
“Community members can make a positive impact for families this holiday season by donating to help us provide diapers and prevent diaper need,” Hugo remarked.
CNY Diaper Bank’s Role in the Community
Established in May 2016, the CNY Diaper Bank has grown to become the largest diaper bank in New York state. The organization collaborates with a network of partner agencies to distribute an impressive average of 200,000 diapers each month, reaching approximately 4,000 babies and toddlers.
Since its inception, the CNY Diaper Bank has distributed over 11 million diapers to families in need. This effort not only provides immediate support to families but also raises awareness about diaper need within the community.
