Dennis M. Fournier, a renowned artist and musician from Portland, passed away on March 14, 2025, due to complications from a stroke. He was 65 years old. Born on June 2, 1959, to Vivian Jameson Fournier and William D. Fournier, Dennis grew up in South Portland, where he developed a passion for the arts that would define his life.
After graduating from South Portland High School, Dennis attended the University of Maine, where he further honed his artistic skills. Throughout his career, he gained recognition for his exceptional talent, creating stunning works of art that captured the beauty of Maine. His paintings can be found in various local businesses, coffee shops, and bakeries, showcasing his ability to connect with the community.
Artistry and Community Impact
Dennis was a familiar sight at beloved locations such as the Eastern and Western Promenades, Portland Headlight, and the beaches of Scarborough and Cape Elizabeth. Often seen with his easel and art supplies, he painted en plein air, allowing him to draw inspiration from his surroundings. Many of his pieces were sold directly from these sites, making his art accessible to locals and visitors alike.
His artistic endeavors were not limited to painting. Dennis was also a talented guitarist, frequently performing at various venues throughout the greater Portland area. His love for music was evident during family gatherings, where he engaged his nieces and nephews in lively jam sessions that echoed with laughter and creativity.
A Loving Family and Cherished Friendships
Dennis built lasting friendships throughout his life, starting with his childhood group known as “The Corner Gang.” His warm personality and engaging conversations often led to spirited discussions that ended with laughter. He was known for his free-spirited nature, which was balanced by his kindness and generosity.
He is survived by his older brother, Dana W. Fournier, and his wife, Lori, as well as his nieces, April D. Fournier and Megan L. Chasse, and their respective families. Other surviving family members include his sister, Donna M. Piscopo, and her husband, Tom, along with nephews Thomas C. Piscopo and Nicholas A. Piscopo.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for November 30, 2025, at North 43 Bistro, located at 1 Spring Point Drive. The event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m., and family and friends are warmly invited to join in honoring Dennis’s vibrant life and legacy.
