This week, pet owners celebrated not only Halloween but also National Cat Day, with a special spotlight on beloved feline companions. The “Pet of the Week” award has been claimed by Little Bit, a cat whose playful antics have captured the hearts of many. Owner Judy Burroughs-McCord shared that Little Bit was rescued from a rainstorm, where she was found covered in fleas. Unable to care for her, a kind woman brought Little Bit to Burroughs-McCord, who has since described her as one of the most affectionate cats she has ever known.
Little Bit has a particular fascination with her own tail. A video shared by Burroughs-McCord shows the cat balancing atop a chair, attempting to catch her tail between the chair’s spindles. “When she turned about eight months old, she started messing around with the chair, and now I can’t keep her from chasing her tail,” Burroughs-McCord explained. Her playful nature has endeared her to many, marking a joyful celebration of feline companionship.
Finalists Showcase Diverse Personalities
In addition to the winner, several finalists also showcased their unique furry friends. One notable entry came from Andrea Little, who adopted two rescue kittens after deciding to foster for the Humane Society of Brooksville in Florida. Initially expecting to care for just one, she ended up bringing home two kittens that had been abandoned. The duo, named Ross and Monica after characters from the television show *Friends*, quickly became inseparable. Little affectionately describes Monica as “a naughty girl” who often gets into mischief, while Ross is always on the lookout to keep her out of trouble.
Another finalist, Jeff Reilly, presented his gray cat, Thor, in a candid photograph that perfectly encapsulates feline personality. In the image, Thor’s tongue sticks out while he playfully exposes his belly—a classic sign of trust among cats. The playful stance invites belly rubs, but Reilly notes that Thor’s crazed eyes serve as a warning that his hand might not escape unscathed.
The competition also included a furry friend who embraced the Halloween spirit. Tippy, a three-year-old mix of Shih Tzu and Chihuahua, charmed everyone with her festive bows adorned with skull motifs. Owner Jennifer Moore shared her affection for Tippy, calling her “the sweetest dog” she has ever had. Moore added, “Her favorite spot is in my lap! She also sits on her hind legs with her front paws bent.”
For pet owners who wish to showcase their own companions, submissions for the next “Pet of the Week” are welcome. Interested parties can send videos and pictures, along with a brief description of their pets, to [email protected] for a chance to be featured in an upcoming edition.
