The 35th annual Planned Parenthood Awards took place on December 9, 2025, at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas, Texas. The event celebrated significant contributions to women’s health and reproductive rights, drawing a full house at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. Co-chairs Pam and John Beckert guided the milestone gathering, which featured a live discussion with activist and former First Daughter Barbara Bush.
During the event, moderated by five-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Tashara Parker, Bush shared insightful reflections on her family legacy. Her anecdotes ranged from lighthearted moments with the Bush family to poignant memories of her grandmother. Bush emphasized her grandmother’s steadfast commitment to family and social causes, showcasing the values instilled in her throughout her upbringing.
Honoring Community Champions
The ceremony also recognized individuals making significant impacts in their communities. The Gertrude Shelburne Humanitarian Award was awarded to Froswa’ Booker-Drew, Ph.D. In her acceptance speech, Booker-Drew highlighted her extensive advocacy work for women and communities of color. She also discussed her collaboration with Planned Parenthood on a groundbreaking initiative aimed at supporting women through perimenopause and menopause. This program aligns with her broader philanthropic efforts in North Texas and beyond.
In addition to honoring community leaders, the event recognized journalistic excellence. The Katherine Ripley Print Media Award was presented to The Dallas Morning News for its investigative series titled “The Standard of Fear.” This series shed light on the real-world consequences of restrictive reproductive care in Texas, using first-person narratives to illustrate the impact on individuals and families.

Following the awards ceremony, attendees continued their support for Planned Parenthood by dining at local restaurants across Dallas. Eateries such as Le Bilboquet, Nonna, Teak Tearoom, Mirador, and Lovers Seafood and Market participated by donating a portion of their proceeds to the organization. This initiative extended the event’s impact beyond the Arts District and underscored the community’s commitment to reproductive health and rights.
