Rural Healthcare Symposium Seeks to Enhance Access in California

The California Association of Nurse Anesthesiology will host a Rural Healthcare Symposium on March 6, 2024, in Sacramento. This event aims to address significant challenges in healthcare access within rural communities across California. Attendees can participate either in person or virtually, facilitating broader engagement and collaboration.

The symposium’s agenda will include a comprehensive overview of HR1 and its implications for rural health, discussions on the obstacles faced by healthcare facilities in these areas, and potential solutions to improve health equity. Additionally, legislators will provide updates on current initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery in underserved regions.

Elizabeth Bamgbose, a certified registered nurse anesthetist, highlighted the event’s importance in a recent interview with KCRA 3. She stated, “We wanted to come together with regulators, legislators and the community to take a much deeper dive into what’s happening in rural healthcare, how we can achieve overcoming some of our challenges, and what are some possible solutions that maybe we’re not thinking of.”

The symposium is designed to foster collaboration among various stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community members. Bamgbose emphasized that the goal is to work collectively to ensure that all Californians receive the care they need.

“Our main wish is to really work with the community at large and look at what we can do to put our heads together and make sure that Californians are taken care of,” she said. This collaborative approach reflects a growing recognition of the need for tailored solutions to meet the unique challenges faced by rural healthcare systems.

Those interested in participating can find more information and register for the symposium through the California Association of Nurse Anesthesiology’s official channels. This event underscores a commitment to improving healthcare access and equity, aiming to make tangible improvements for communities that have historically faced healthcare disparities.

As the symposium approaches, anticipation builds around the potential discussions and solutions that may emerge, shaping the future of rural healthcare in California.
