Timothy Andrew McGowan, a respected figure in the entertainment industry, passed away in early 2025 after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was 67 years old and is remembered for his significant contributions to film and television, as well as his deep personal connections.
Born in 1957 in Brooklyn, New York, Tim was the third of six children in the McGowan family, which had roots tracing back to Irish immigrants. In 1966, his family moved to Maywood, New Jersey, where he spent his formative years. He attended Our Lady Queen of Peace school before relocating to California in 1971, settling in the San Fernando Valley the following year.
Tim graduated from Chaminade High School, a community that remained an important part of his life long after he left. His professional journey began in 1985 when he joined Columbia Pictures as a research analyst. Over the years, he advanced to the position of Vice President of Research at CBS/KCAL-9, where he played a pivotal role in shaping television programming.
In 1986, while performing at the Showboat Theatre, Tim met Susan McDermott. They married the following year and welcomed two sons, Matthew in 1989 and Morgan in 1992. Following his divorce, Tim reconnected with Pamela Meyer, a classmate from Chaminade. Their partnership flourished over 15 years, during which they traveled extensively together, exploring the world.
In 2010, Tim returned to the theatre after a 25-year hiatus, participating in numerous productions in the Santa Clarita area. His artistic endeavors were paralleled by personal achievements, including becoming a dual Irish citizen and earning two Associate of Arts degrees.
Despite facing significant health challenges, Tim demonstrated remarkable resilience. He triumphed over duodenal cancer in 2022, but late in 2024, he received a diagnosis of leukemia, which ultimately led to his passing.
Tim is survived by his life partner, Pam; his sons, Matthew and Morgan; and his siblings, Terry, Jim, Colleen, and Cathy. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and connection that will be cherished by family and friends alike.
Tim McGowan’s contributions to the entertainment industry and his impact on those around him will be remembered with fondness and respect.
