Piedmont Mountainside’s Radiation Oncology Center Celebrates First Year of Impactful Care

Piedmont Mountainside Hospital’s Radiation Oncology Center is celebrating a successful first year of service, having delivered over 3,000 radiation treatments since its opening on February 4, 2025. The facility, designed to provide advanced cancer care to patients in Pickens, Fannin, Gilmer, Gordon, and Murray counties, has quickly gained a reputation for quality and compassion, leading to increased patient demand.

Rapid Growth in Services

Initially operating on a half-day schedule, the center has transitioned to full-day operations to better accommodate the needs of its patients. As a result, individuals are now traveling not only from nearby counties but also from as far away as Murphy, North Carolina, highlighting the facility’s expanding regional influence. The steady increase in patient volume reflects both the community’s need for accessible oncology care and the center’s commitment to high-quality treatment.

The facility is equipped with some of the most advanced radiation technology available in Georgia, including a linear accelerator, CT simulation scanner, and the Brainlab ExactTrac Dynamic system. This innovative equipment allows for a variety of treatment options, including IMRT and IGRT radiation therapy, as well as stereotactic treatments for both brain and body conditions. The center also offers unique features such as tattoo-less image guidance and Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH) specifically for breast cancer patients.

Commitment to Patient Care

The center’s success is attributed to its dedicated clinical team, led by radiation oncologist Dr. Adam Nowlan. Dr. Nowlan has received exceptional feedback from patients for his thorough and compassionate approach. A recent survey conducted by Press Ganey in January 2026 featured a patient praising Dr. Nowlan, stating, “He’s detailed, precise, and clearly explains the ‘why’ behind his recommendations.” This sentiment is echoed in patient surveys that highlight the center’s commitment to outstanding communication and a supportive environment during treatment.

Kayla Easley, Manager of Outpatient Services, noted that patient feedback consistently reflects appreciation for the quality of care, emphasizing the importance of comfort during a challenging time. The comprehensive care team also includes a dietitian, speech therapist, and case manager, ensuring that all aspects of patient well-being are addressed.

As Piedmont Mountainside looks to the future, the focus remains on enhancing treatment capabilities and expanding access to high-quality cancer care. CEO Denise Ray remarked, “What we’ve seen since then affirms why this investment mattered. Patients deserve world-class cancer care without leaving their communities.”

With a robust foundation established in its inaugural year, the Radiation Oncology Center is well-positioned to continue its growth, further solidifying its role as a vital resource for cancer care in the region. The center’s commitment to excellence and compassionate care will undoubtedly play a crucial role in supporting patients facing cancer treatment in the years to come.
