Fargo Clinic Honors Dr. Mark Lundeen with Commemorative Plaque
FARGO — Dr. Mark Lundeen, a distinguished orthopedic surgeon with over 40 years of experience, received a commemorative plaque at the Sanford Sports Medicine Clinic on October 22, 2023. The plaque honors his significant contributions to the field of orthopedic surgery and will be mounted prominently in the clinic as a lasting tribute.
Family, friends, and colleagues gathered to celebrate Lundeen’s achievements, which include establishing an orthopedic residency and fellowship program aimed at training the next generation of surgeons. Notably, he also led the first FDA-approved trial that tested adipose stem cells for healing rotator cuff tears, a groundbreaking advancement in orthopedic medicine.
Reflecting on his career, Lundeen expressed gratitude for the impact he has had on his patients and the medical community. “It’s like the interviews of players that have just won the Super Bowl. How do you put that in perspective? I don’t know that. It’ll take probably years before I realize, when I come back as a patient and I’m looking at the plaque on the wall to think back to all the people that made so much difference in my life,” he stated.
Having retired from active orthopedic surgery in 2023, Lundeen continues to contribute to the healthcare community through his role on the board of trustees for Sanford Health. His leadership and dedication have left an indelible mark on the organization and the patients it serves.
The plaque serves not only as recognition of Lundeen’s professional journey but also as an inspiration to current and future medical practitioners. As the clinic continues to advance in sports medicine, the values and innovations brought forth by Lundeen will undoubtedly resonate within its walls for years to come.
