Steven Andrew Kovacs, aged 73, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, surrounded by family after a courageous two-year struggle with pancreatic cancer. His death marks the end of a life dedicated to both his career and his passions, leaving a profound impact on those who knew him.
Born to John and Ruth Kovacs, Steven built a successful career in sales and teaching at Dakota Tech. He was not only an educator but also a passionate musician. His love for music blossomed in his early years and continued to flourish throughout his life. Steven was involved in various musical endeavors, including the White Bear Lake High School choir and liturgical music. He went on to lead several bands, including The Four Coachmen, 1st Things 1st, and the JS Trio.
In addition to his musical accomplishments, Steven found joy in woodworking and was an avid sports enthusiast, particularly enjoying golf. He cherished moments spent with his wife, Deb, at their lake home, where they created lasting memories together.
Steven is survived by his beloved wife, Deb; his sons, Andrew and Patrick (Megan); his grandchildren, Casey and Dylan; and his siblings, Gail Ward, Sue Pearson, Jody Jarvis, and John Kovacs. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Kovacs. Special recognition is given to his sister, Jody Jarvis, for her dedicated support in assisting Deb with Steven’s home hospice care until the end.
A Celebration of Steven’s life is scheduled for January 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM, with visitation beginning one hour prior. The service will take place at Starkson Family ~ Anderson Chapel, located at 14850 Garrett Ave., Apple Valley, MN 55124.
