Toledo Opera Unveils Exciting Events for ‘The Elixir of Love’

Toledo Opera has announced two themed events aimed at generating excitement for its upcoming production of Donizetti’s “The Elixir of Love”. The first event, titled “Get Into the Spirit of Opera,” is scheduled for January 29, 2026, starting at 17:30 local time. This gathering, held in collaboration with Toledo Spirits, will provide audiences with a preview of the beloved opera through signature cocktails, live performances, and the chance to win tickets to the opening night.

“Get Into the Spirit of Opera” will feature both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages crafted by Toledo Spirits. Attendees will enjoy a live performance by cast members from “The Elixir of Love.” In addition, guests will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for two tickets to the opening night on February 13, 2026, along with a $75 gift certificate for Toledo Spirits/Bellwether.

Following this, the event “Top Shelf: A Cocktail Competition of Operatic Proportions” will take place on February 6, 2026, at 19:00 in the Registry Bistro Ballroom, Toledo. Organized by the Toledo Opera’s Audience Development Committee, this unique showcase combines mixology, live music, and audience engagement, all inspired by the upcoming production.

Local community figures will serve as guest mixologists, competing to create an original cocktail. The celebrity mixologists include WTOL anchor Dan Cummins, Toledo Deputy Mayor Abby Arnold, Handmade Toledo founder Jessica Crossfield, and TolHouse founder Angela Lucas, among others. Notably, conductor J. Ernest Green and tenor David Walton, who will portray Nemorino, will also compete.

Attendees will sample four unique cocktails while enjoying food offerings from Registry Bistro. Mocktails will be available for those who prefer non-alcoholic options. The event will feature a musical preview performed by a cast member from “The Elixir of Love,” enhancing the celebratory atmosphere. Guests will cast their votes for their favorite cocktail through tips, with the highest-earning entry receiving the prestigious Top Shelf Trophy.

“The Elixir of Love” will officially open on February 13, 2026, with an additional performance scheduled for February 15. The Toledo Opera aims to engage the community through these events while showcasing the charm and excitement of opera.
