Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas Star in New Comedy Film ‘Power Ballad’

The upcoming film Power Ballad will feature actors Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas as they navigate the ups and downs of the music industry. Scheduled for release in theaters on June 5, 2026, the film is directed by John Carney, known for his work on critically acclaimed films such as Begin Again and Sing Street.

Set in a vibrant backdrop, Rudd plays Rick, a wedding singer whose life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Danny, a boy band member portrayed by Jonas. The plot thickens as Danny rises back to fame using one of Rick’s songs, leading to a conflict when Rick claims authorship of the track. The cast also includes Peter McDonald, Havana Rose Liu, Jack Reynor, and Marcella Plunkett.

Both actors share a connection through their New Jersey roots, as Rudd hails from Passaic, while Jonas was raised in Wyckoff and Little Falls. Jonas, now 33, gained fame at a young age as part of the Jonas Brothers, a pop band that continues to tour in celebration of their 20th anniversary. Their current tour, titled Greetings From Your Hometown Tour, commenced in August at MetLife Stadium and will make stops at the Prudential Center in Newark on November 16 and 17.

Rudd, aged 56, has enjoyed a varied career, appearing in notable films such as Clueless and the Ghostbusters franchise. His comedic talent has made him a household name. In 2022, he was honored with an induction into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. During his acceptance speech, Rudd shared anecdotes about his family’s journey from England to New Jersey, highlighting personal ties to various locations in the state.

Jonas, who recently starred in the Broadway musical The Last Five Years, is set to join his brothers, Joe and Kevin Jonas, in an induction into the New Jersey Hall of Fame next month. He expressed excitement about this recognition, stating, “It feels surreal in a lot of ways… It’s really meaningful.”

The film Power Ballad promises to blend humor and heart, showcasing the challenges and triumphs of its characters. With Rudd’s comedic timing and Jonas’s musical background, audiences can expect a lively cinematic experience when the movie premieres in 2026.
