JT Thomas Retires to Bali, Embraces New Life After ‘Southern Charm’

Jarrett “JT” Thomas has made a significant life change, moving to Bali and announcing his retirement from his previous life in the United States. On November 2, 2024, the former reality star shared his decision via Instagram, stating, “Today’s the first day of my journey in life.” At 40 years old, JT expressed a strong desire to start anew, citing the current political climate in America as a contributing factor to his departure from Charleston.

In his candid post, JT remarked, “Honestly, I don’t even think it needs [an] explanation. I think I’ve just been thinking about doing this like many of you have. So, I said, ‘Enough’s enough.’” He emphasized that his move to Bali represents a fresh chapter after spending his entire life in the U.S.

JT is not just relocating; he is in the process of selling “everything” in America, including his business and real estate assets. While he hinted at a possible return to the United States, he mentioned that this would depend on whether “things become normal again, if that ever happens.”

Bali is incredible, he noted, describing it as “paradise.” However, he also acknowledged the challenges of adapting to a new environment. “I don’t know a single person,” he admitted, highlighting the risk he is taking by leaving behind friends and family. He has already paid his rent in Bali for the month of November, which means he will not be returning to Charleston for Thanksgiving.

JT expressed a desire to build a community in Bali, recognizing that loneliness could set in if he does not make connections. He stated, “If I don’t make friends and build a community, sooner or later I’m going to feel lonely.” Despite the uncertainties, he views this transition as an exciting opportunity for personal growth.

This decision comes nearly a year after he exited the cast of Southern Charm ahead of the season 10 premiere. In November 2023, he announced his resignation from the show, stating, “I no longer wish to participate in any ways moving forward with the TV show.” He described the previous year as “extremely challenging and exhausting,” emphasizing the need for recovery—both physically and mentally.

During his time on Southern Charm, JT faced multiple challenges, including conflicts with other cast members. He received backlash from Austen Kroll over allegations of infidelity and had a contentious relationship with Madison LeCroy, who he accused of creating jealousy with her husband, Brett Randle.

Moreover, JT faced accusations of racism towards Venita Aspen, a longtime friend and brief romantic interest, which he denied. Venita later claimed that JT misled her about having a girlfriend during their relationship. The fallout from these controversies culminated in the season 10 reunion, where cast members labeled him a “f*** boy” for his behavior.

As JT embarks on this new phase of his life in Bali, the future remains uncertain. With his recent retirement and willingness to embrace change, he has opened the door to new experiences while leaving behind the complexities of reality television.

Season 11 of Southern Charm is set to premiere on Bravo on November 19, 2024, at 21:00 ET, continuing the story of the remaining cast members in Charleston.
