Gabriel Basso Returns for Season 3 of Netflix’s ‘The Night Agent’

Gabriel Basso is set to reprise his role as Peter Sutherland in the third season of Netflix’s acclaimed series, The Night Agent, which premieres this week. The show, a gripping conspiracy thriller, captured audiences upon its debut in 2023, surprising many, including Basso himself, with its immediate success. “When you’re making something, you never can anticipate how it’s going to do,” Basso explained in a recent phone interview. “It’s always very subjective in terms of what catches on. So yes, it’s nice so many appreciate it.”

In the series, Basso’s character starts as a low-ranking FBI agent, tasked with monitoring a phone that rarely rings from a cramped basement office in the White House. His fortunes change dramatically when he exposes a significant conspiracy at the highest levels of government. Basso describes Peter’s journey as one driven by an intense level of stress, where he is constantly challenged to make critical decisions under pressure.

“The circumstances are always changing,” Basso said. “He basically made decisions in Season 2 that he’s now dealing with the consequences of.” As the narrative unfolds, Peter evolves from an overlooked agent to a field operative, navigating a perilous world filled with uncertainty. The constant threat of danger forces him to confront situations that could endanger not only his life but also the lives of those he cares about.

Basso’s comments reflect the character’s struggle with paranoia, a sentiment he humorously relates to his own experiences in the entertainment industry. “Sounds like Hollywood,” he quipped. “I have a very healthy baseline level of paranoia. So I feel good. I feel right at home where Peter is.”

In addition to his work on The Night Agent, Basso has ventured into children’s literature. He has written and illustrated a book titled The Growth of Lost Things, set to be released in Spring 2024. The book addresses themes of loss and acceptance, aiming to help parents discuss difficult topics with their children. Basso expressed his fascination with how younger generations sometimes overlook the lessons of the past.

“I’m a fan of history, and I’m constantly fascinated with the arrogance of younger generations, forgetting everything that had come before them,” he noted. Basso believes that acknowledging loss and death as natural parts of life can alleviate fear and encourage a healthier perspective. “In the West, I feel there’s just a lot of fear and denial. A refusal to accept the natural order of life. Death is this thing that should give life urgency. Instead, it makes everyone afraid.”

As audiences eagerly await the latest season of The Night Agent, Basso’s multifaceted career continues to expand, showcasing his talents both on-screen and in literature. The series is available for streaming on Netflix, promising viewers another thrilling chapter in Peter Sutherland’s tumultuous journey.
