Drake has secured a significant legal victory as Italian photographer Gabriele Galimberti has officially dismissed his lawsuit regarding the music video for “What Did I Miss?” The lawsuit, which was filed in November 2023, claimed that Drake had infringed on Galimberti’s work by using an image that purportedly resembled elements from the photographer’s project, “The Ameriguns.”
Galimberti specifically pointed to a scene in the music video, which debuted in July, where firearms were arranged in a way that he believed closely mirrored his artistic representation. In his lawsuit, he also alleged that Drake attempted to connect their legal troubles, noting that both have faced serious allegations in recent years.
The claims against Galimberti arose from his involvement in a controversial Balenciaga advertisement featuring children with teddy bears dressed in inappropriate outfits. In contrast, Drake faced allegations of pedophilia stemming from lyrics by fellow artist Kendrick Lamar during their highly publicized feud. The lawsuit detailed that Drake sought to imply a shared experience of public exoneration, despite the serious nature of the allegations.
According to AllHipHop, the lawsuit has been dismissed “with prejudice,” preventing Galimberti from refiling his complaint in the future. He will also be responsible for his own legal fees incurred during the litigation process. The circumstances surrounding the dismissal remain unclear, and it is uncertain whether the parties reached a settlement prior to this outcome.
As news of Drake’s legal triumph spreads, anticipation continues to build for his upcoming ninth studio album, titled ICEMAN. Although there is no confirmed release date at this time, speculation suggests that it may be available soon.
Drake’s ability to navigate this legal challenge successfully adds yet another layer to his already complex career, marked by both artistic success and legal scrutiny.
