Disney is set to bring the beloved story of Rapunzel back to life in a live-action adaptation of Tangled. The entertainment giant announced on Wednesday that Teagan Croft will take on the iconic role of Rapunzel, while Milo Manheim will portray her charming counterpart, Flynn Rider.
This reimagining is directed by Michael Gracey, known for his work on the hit musical The Greatest Showman. The screenplay is crafted by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who has garnered attention for her unique storytelling abilities. The film aims to capture the adventurous spirit of the original animated feature, which debuted in 2010 and grossed over $590 million worldwide.
Croft, an Australian actress, gained recognition for her role as Rachel Roth, also known as Raven, in the DC series Titans. She also starred in Netflix’s True Spirit. Manheim, on the other hand, is known for his performances in Disney’s Zombies franchise and the teen drama School Spirits, where he played Wally Clark.
While the lead roles have been filled, the casting for the antagonist, Mother Gothel, remains unannounced. Disney has yet to provide a release date for the film, leaving fans eagerly awaiting further details.
The animated version of Tangled featured Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider, captivating audiences with its music and animation. This upcoming live-action film follows a trend established by Disney, which has successfully adapted several animated classics into live-action features, including The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast.
In addition, a live-action adaptation of Moana is set to premiere this summer, further expanding Disney’s efforts to reintroduce its beloved characters to a new generation. As anticipation builds for the live-action Tangled, fans are encouraged to stay tuned for more updates regarding casting and release timelines.
