Hyundai Motor America has reported a record-breaking start to 2026, achieving total U.S. sales of 55,624 units in January, marking a 2% increase compared to January 2025. This growth is largely attributed to a significant surge in hybrid sales, which rose by more than 60%, and strong performances from Hyundai’s SUV lineup, which made up 77% of total sales.
Randy Parker, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, emphasized the company’s strong market presence despite challenging weather conditions across the country. “Hyundai delivered a powerful start to 2026, achieving the best January in our history. Our teams and dealers continued to meet customer demand, driving total sales up 2% year over year,” Parker stated.
Key Highlights of January Sales
Sales figures for January reveal impressive results across several models. The all-new Palisade saw a remarkable 29% increase in sales, while the Santa Fe Hybrid posted a 43% surge. The Elantra and Kona also contributed positively, with sales up 3% and 22% respectively. However, the IONIQ 6 experienced a more challenging month, with sales down by 61%.
Hyundai’s electrified lineup has been a major highlight, with the IONIQ 9 being recognized as the Vehicle of the Year by Auto Focus, a prominent automotive YouTube channel. This recognition underscores the vehicle’s innovation and performance within the electric SUV segment.
Recognition and Awards
The all-new Palisade has also been named the 2026 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year by the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year (NACTOY) jury. This prestigious award highlights the Palisade as a benchmark in the utility vehicle market.
In addition, Hyundai’s Elantra Hybrid and Tucson were honored in the 2026 Best Cars for the Money list by U.S. News & World Report. The Elantra Hybrid received the award for Best Compact Hybrid for the second consecutive year, while the Tucson earned Best Compact SUV for the third straight year.
Hyundai’s commitment to safety and quality is also evident, as the IONIQ 9 secured global recognition for its reliability and safety features. The vehicle’s accolades further solidify Hyundai’s leadership in the electric mobility sector.
As the automotive industry evolves, Hyundai is clearly positioning itself for continued growth. The company’s upcoming investments, including a planned $26 billion investment in the U.S. from 2025 to 2028, indicate a strong commitment to expanding its operations and product offerings. With the successful launch of their marketing campaign, “Make Everyday Feel Epic,” featuring the Palisade, Hyundai aims to enhance its brand presence in the market as it continues to innovate and adapt to consumer preferences.
Hyundai Motor America remains focused on delivering a technology-rich lineup of vehicles that meet the demands of today’s consumers while reinforcing its vision of Progress for Humanity.
