DeKalb County Advances Water Infrastructure with Virtual Meeting

DeKalb County is actively enhancing its water infrastructure, hosting a second virtual community meeting focused on the Panola Road Water Main Replacement Project. This meeting took place on October 26, 2023, at 18:30 (6:30 p.m.) via Zoom, providing an opportunity for residents who missed the initial session to access crucial project information.

The water main replacement project commenced on October 13, 2023, and encompasses approximately 11,400 linear feet of ductile iron water pipes. The initiative is divided into two phases to streamline the work and minimize disruption. Phase I extends from Salem Road east to Big Miller Road, then north to Panola Road, concluding at Minola Drive/Fairington Road. This phase is anticipated to last around 11 months, targeting completion by September 2026.

Phase II of the project will initiate at Snapfinger and progress northeast along Panola Road, including Twin Lakes Drive, ultimately finishing at Salem Road. This segment is projected to take approximately 10 months, with work scheduled from January to October 2026, contingent upon weather conditions.

This undertaking is part of DeKalb County’s expansive $4.27 billion Capital Improvement Program, which aims to reinforce and modernize the county’s water infrastructure. Construction activities will take place from 07:00 to 19:00 (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.), Monday through Friday, with major holidays excluded.

Residents and business owners seeking additional project information can reach out via the DWM Project Information Line at 1-800-986-1108 or email [email protected]. County staff are readily available to address inquiries and provide updates on the project’s progress.

As DeKalb County continues to invest in essential infrastructure upgrades, community involvement remains crucial. The virtual meetings are designed to foster transparency and keep residents informed every step of the way.
