Urgent Action: 87-Year-Old Receives Refrigerator After I-Team’s Help

UPDATE: An 87-year-old woman in Chicago finally received a new refrigerator just in time for Thanksgiving after significant delays from Sears Home Services, thanks to intervention from the ABC7 I-Team. For nearly a month, Pat Galla struggled without a working fridge, relying on the company’s warranty for repairs that never came.

Galla, along with her daughter Chris Sobush, reached out to the I-Team after exhausting all options with Sears. “I’m 87-years-old, my husband’s 89,” Galla stated. “It’s very difficult to get to the store or anything too.” Despite assurances from Sears, repair appointments were repeatedly canceled or mishandled.

After the I-Team exposed widespread complaints against Sears Home Services in October, Galla decided to take action. “Three weeks passed, and I still hadn’t had anybody here,” she said. Desperate for help, she contacted the I-Team, who quickly escalated her case.

Within 48 hours of the I-Team’s involvement, Galla received a working refrigerator. “We messaged you on Monday afternoon. First thing Tuesday morning, I had received an email from Sears,” Sobush reported.

Sears Home Services later released a statement, apologizing for the delays. They noted that the repair process began on September 13 and was completed on October 8. The company also offered a $300 reimbursement for food loss covered under Galla’s Protection Agreement. “We understand how important a working appliance is to your home,” Sears stated.

Galla expressed her gratitude, stating, “I would still be waiting if it wasn’t for [the I-Team]. Much appreciated, God bless you.”

This incident highlights the ongoing issues with Sears Home Services, which has faced numerous complaints regarding delayed repairs and canceled appointments. The I-Team’s initial investigation revealed hundreds of similar grievances filed with the Better Business Bureau. Although Sears maintains an ‘A+’ rating with the BBB, they acknowledged that parts availability can cause delays.
